Fred “Kenneth” McDonald
Wrens, GA – Fred “Kenneth” McDonald, 89, loving husband of 70 years to Gloria “Faye” Johnson McDonald, peacefully entered into his eternal rest late Monday evening, May 23, 2022 at Keysville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services to celebrate his life will be held in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. Thursday morning, May 26, 2022 with Reverend Wayne Turpin officiating.
Born in the family homeplace in Matthews to the late Louise Goodin McDonald and the late Fred Alvin McDonald, Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. After graduating from Wrens High School, he married his high school sweetheart in February 1952, settling in Wrens and starting his family there. Being a committed, dedicated employee, he worked as a salesman for Wrens Grocery Company for 50 years. Kenneth loved football—local, collegiate, and professional—and was a huge Georgia Bulldawg fan. As he grew older, he found great enjoyment in watching his great grandsons’ games. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Having a green thumb, he was known in the community for his vegetable garden. Kenneth has been described as being honest, having great integrity, having a strong sense of himself and being his own person—knowing right from wrong and “sticking to his guns”. Having accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, he was a past member of Wrens Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and secretary for 30 years. A current member of Ways Baptist Church, he served for years as a deacon and on the cemetery committee. The epitome of a family man, he tried to be a Biblical leader and love each one unconditionally. He led a life of service to his Lord, his family and his community. A simple, humble man, he was always grateful to God for His many blessings and having lived a good life—one that included the love of his soul mate, his children, grandchildren, church family and friends.
Kenneth is also preceded in death by his brother, Charles McDonald. Others left to cherish his memories include his children, Mike McDonald (Lynn), Dana Doss-Bryngelson (David) and Karey Hughey (Jerry); nine grandchildren, Nicole Lambert (Elmer), Bree Middleton, Ryan Doss (Christy), Mitchell Doss (Heidi), Leslie Alexander (David), Kasey Simmons (Chris), Kellie Graves (Seth), Jeremy Hughey (McKenzie) and Corey Hughey (Abby); eighteen (18) great grandchildren; four siblings, Catherine McNair, Shirley May (Jimmy), Susan McNair (Billy) and Johnny McDonald; nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Doss, Mitchell Doss, Jeremy Hughey, Corey Hughey, Jagger Doss, Ty Doss, Brett Doss and London Doss.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ways Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Peggy Ann Chalker, 314 Quaker Road East, Wrens GA 30833.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
