Fred “Shindig” Anthony Huff, 62, loving husband of the late Betty Ann Hammett Huff, entered into his eternity Wednesday afternoon, August 2, 2023 at his residence. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 12, 2023 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Edward C. James officiating. Prior to the service on Saturday, the family will receive friends from 11:00AM until the service at noon. The committal service and interment will follow at 2:00PM in the Savannah Valley Memorial Garden in Thomson.
Fred was one of six children born to the late Mary Frances Thompson Huff and the late Shelton Eugene Huff and was known all of his life by his nickname “Shindig”. He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and attended Wrens High School. Shindig farmed most of his life, and was also a very talented carpenter. He loved working with wood and making furniture. As he stated, “I’m a jack-of-all trades and a master of none.” A sports fan, Shindig loved watching the GA Bulldogs—GO DAWGS!—the Atlanta Braves, and the Dallas Cowboys. Being a true “good ‘ole Southern boy”, he liked to hunt and fish, but his most favorite things to do were smoking, drinking beer and being with friends. Shindig liked to have fun and wanted everyone around him to have fun as well and to be happy. He lived life his way and was not judgmental of others and how they lived their lives. Shindig loved his family and friends, committing himself to them without question. As he put it himself, “I am who I am—I’m always Shindig and everybody knows Shindig and that I’m not going to be a hypocrite. They can like me or not, talk about me or whatever, but I know where I stand with my Creator.” This unique character will not be forgotten—his memories will live on in our hearts. RIP, Shindig….
Shindig is also preceded in death by his brothers, Michael L. Huff and Shelton E. Huff Jr. Those left to cherish his memories include his life partner, Kathy Hicks; three sisters, Donna H. Hooks (Chris), Sheila Scarber (Wayne) and Tammy Barbour (Kevin); step children, Michael Cowart (Chrysta) and Christina Hicks; special nephew and caregiver, Mike Huff II; 10 step grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family and friends.
