Gibson, GA – Frank Lee McCarthy, 66, loving husband of the Patricia Williford McCarthy, entered into eternal rest Monday morning, July 10, 2017 at his residence in Gibson. A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday morning, July 15, 2017 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. John Jenkins officiating.
Born in Essen Germany to the late Marguerita Dietz McCarthy James and the late Charles Lee McCarthy, Frank came to America at the age of 5 when his father’s tour ended in Germany. Coming to America on the Queen Mary, his first sight of his new home was the Statue of Liberty before landing at Ellis Island. Since his father was in the military, he lived in Colorado, Ft. Riley KS, and then at Ft. Gordon. While stationed at Ft. Gordon, his father died and his mother met and married a native of Jefferson County. Upon his graduation from Wrens High School, he immediately joined the Marines, serving his country in Viet Nam. After his honorable discharge, he lived in Hilton Head SC where he was a painting contractor. Moving back to Wrens to take care of his sister and step-father, he worked at James Cabinet Shop until his own health decline. Frank served his Lord and Savior by joining the fellowship of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. He met the love of his life, was married in the church he loved, and finally had a family of his own. Having found the “peace the passes all understanding”, his life was filled with happiness, acceptance, peace and joy. Frank also discovered a passion for photography and making videos for family and friends. This passion turned into a small, successful enterprise. His family provided him great joy and pleasure, but his granddaughter stole his heart. We mourn his passing, but celebrate him reaching his eternal home.
Frank is also preceded in death by his step father, Calvin James. Other survivors include his step children, Michael Terry (Monica) and Brad Kitchens (April); two sisters, Jeannie M. Grimes and Patty M. Combs (Greg); two grandchildren, Zachary Terry and Sara Michelle Kitchens; niece, Jamie Brock; great nephew, Nicholas Brock; and his church family.
The family will receive friends at Reedy Creek Baptist Church after services Saturday morning, July 15, 2017.
