Eugenia Loris Cofer Gordy
Louisville, GA – Eugenia Cofer Gordy, 88, beloved wife of the late Harris J. Gordy, entered into rest Monday, April 25, 2016 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jerry Cofer officiating. Interment will follow in Louisville City Cemetery.
One of five children born to the late Loris Dudley Cofer and the late Charles Horace Cofer, Eugenia was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, graduating from Louisville Academy and Georgia State College for Women. She faithfully served her Lord and Savior at Louisville ARP, as well as being instrumental in organizing and volunteering countless hours at the Louisville Food Pantry. Being creative and loving the arts, she was a member of the Arts’ Guild in Louisville and participated in art shows at the Firehouse Art Gallery. She also enjoyed sewing and embroidery. An avid outdoorswoman, she loved to hunt and fish, as well as work in her garden and to watch the many varieties of birds in her yard. A great cook, she loved to have her family over for family gatherings. Above all, she loved her family unconditionally and was most content in their presence. Her infectious laugh and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Eugenia is also preceded in death by her son, Byron Gordy; and two brothers, Charles H. Cofer, Jr. and Wayne Cofer. Survivors include four children, Patrick Gordy (Melinda) of Jackson SC, Carol Driggers (Warren) of Irmo SC, Elizabeth Bailie (Art) of Salem VA, and Dawn Snyder (Daniel)of Traveler’s Rest SC; two sisters, Marianne Miller and Lettie Muhammad; eleven grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Blake Gordy, Chris Gordy, Frank Gordy, Jr., Johnny Gordy, A.P. Jones, Ray Mitchell, Phillip Stevens and Jimmy Thompson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Gordy, Eric Miller, Neil Miller and Owen Miller.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM, Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
