Eugene T. Prescott
Wrens, GA – Eugene T. “Gene” Prescott, 79, loving husband of 60 years to Nellie Faye McNair Prescott, entered into eternal rest early Thursday morning, July 16, 2015 at Doctors Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Wrens Baptist Church with Edward C. James and Rev. Sean Heggood officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
One of two sons born to the late Claudia Mae Guy Prescott and the late Robert Pilcher Prescott, Gene was a lifelong resident of Wrens, graduating high school in 1955. A few months after graduation, he married the love of his life and then served our country by joining the Air Force. After his tour of duty, he worked as a manager for Smith Sheppard Concrete for approximately 20 years before joining the law enforcement staff at the City of Wrens, first as a dispatcher, then as a road officer and the last six years as the Chief, retiring with sixteen years of service to his community. Since 1997 until his recent decline in health, Gene assisted James Funeral Home with their funeral services. Gene loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of his heart and faithfully served Him at Wrens Baptist Church where he was a member of the Walter Jacobsen Sunday School class. He served as a greeter, an usher, a Deacon and the Secretary-Treasurer for his Sunday School class—he dedicated himself to serve others. Gene loved to be outdoors—mowing the lawn, working in his garden, fishing, etc. But he was best known as a “people” person—he never met a stranger and loved to talk and joke around. Having a servant’s heart, Gene befriended many people in need—just another way he showed others Christ’s love. He loved his family unconditionally and his greatest pleasure was being with them, especially his grandchildren. Loyal, steadfast, dedicated….words cannot describe Gene Prescott, a truly unique man of God.
Gene is also preceded in death by his brother, R. D. Prescott; and his grandson, Brandon Prescott. Other survivors include his children, Robbie Prescott (Jane) and Debbie Norton (Jeff); three grandchildren, Ashley Wheeler (J. D.), Corey Norton and Matthew Norton; and many brother and sisters in Christ. Pallbearers will be Jeff Gay, Jim Gay, Greg McDonald, Corey Norton, Matt Norton and J. D. Wheeler. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Walter Jacobsen Sunday School Class.
The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to Wrens Baptist Church, PO Box 217, Wrens GA 30833.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM on Friday evening, July 17, 2015.

I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free:
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss--
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
