Erwin “Darrell” Thompson
Gibson, GA – Erwin “Darrell” Thompson 73, loving husband of 23+ years to Bobbie Jean Beasley Thompson, entered into his eternal rest late Saturday night, October 23, 2021 at University Hospital. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 29, 2021 with Pastor Edward Carothers officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
Born to the late Ivelyn Dixon Thompson and the late James Leon Thompson, Darrell grew up in the Stapleton-Avera-Gibson area. After graduating from Wrens High School in 1967, he worked for several companies doing different jobs—NAPA, AMOCO Fertilizer, where he drove a spreader truck, J&M Transfer, D&L Industrial Services, to name a few. Most of all he loved driving trucks, transporting products all of the country. Darrell was very handy and could do a little bit of everything—he was working in construction in North Carolina when he met the love of life, marrying on Valentine’s Day 1998. He was hyper and always had to be doing something. In his younger years, he spent his spare time riding horses and fishing. He also raised livestock and rabbits. Having an out-going personality, Darrell never met a stranger and loved to meet people. He was known to be a straight-faced jokester—until you got to know him and his “tell signs”, you never knew if he was serious or not. He was also known to be very giving, caring, and compassionate. Darrell loved his Lord and Savior and served Him as a member of Born Again Baptist Church in Harlem. He had a great love for his family and found peace and comfort in their presence.
Darrell is also preceded in death by his brother, Sherwin Thompson; and a nephew, Kevin Thompson. Others left to cherish his memories include his children, Erwin Thompson (Christy), Annette Quarles, Jeffrey Thompson, Mitchell Bowman and Johnny Marshall; five grandchildren, Michael Thompson, Payton Bush, Dalton Bowman, Dakota Bowman and Jonathan Marshall; four great grandchildren, two siblings, Charleen Boyd (Bruce) and Larry Thompson (Debbie); other extended family and many friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Marshall, Travis Murchinson, and Ben King.
Because of their unexpected loss, the family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made directly to James Funeral Home, PO Box 588, Wrens GA 30833.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening, October 28, 2021.
