Emily Elaine McTier Howell
Matthews, GA – Emily Elaine McTier Howell, 56, loving wife to the late Dewey “Slugger” Howell Jr. and the late David “Wayne” Howell, entered into her eternal rest Monday afternoon, March 15, 2021 at her residence in Matthews. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening, March 19, 2021 with the Reverend Ed Chance officiating.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
Born to the late Patricia Gay McTier Murphy and the late Fay McTier, Emily grew up in the Thomson-Dearing area. She quit school to get married. Having started her family at a young age, she was a stay-at-home mom who loved sewing, crocheting and, most of all, cooking for her family. Having suffered the loss of her first husband, she married his brother who became a step-father to her three boys. Emily was also the care-giver to her oldest son who became paralyzed after suffering several back injuries. Music, especially country music, provided comfort and solace. Her favorite artists were Charlie Pride and Elvis. Emily has been described as being very independent, strong-willed and straight forward. She was a homebody and loved her cat “Butch” and dog “Fat Head”. Most of all, she loved her family—her granddaughter, who she lovingly called “Lulu”, filled her heart with much joy.
Emily was also preceded in death by her brother, Chris McTier. Those left to cherish her memories include her three sons, John Howell, Dewey “Jack” Howell III (Sabrina), and Chris Howell; granddaughter, Christina Howell; step-mother, Peggy McTier; siblings, Beatrice Floyd (Louis), Johnny Paul Gay and Marty Blount; other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 5:30 – 7:00 P.M. prior to the services Friday evening, March 19, 2021.
