Edith Marie Jones Allen

Louisville, GA  –        Edith Marie Jones Allen, 78, entered into her eternal rest Friday evening, January 5, 2018 at her residence. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2018 with David McTier and Reverend Edward Salter officiating. Private interment at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery will follow at a later date.

One of seven born to the late Mary Etta Benton Jones and the late Roland Odene Jones, Edith was a native of Chattanooga TN, with her family moving to Jefferson County when she was 5 years old.  In her younger years and having an adventurous nature, she loved to travel, moving to a place, finding a job there and exploring her surroundings before moving on to another place of interest—New York and Key West were her favorite places. Settling back home, she worked at Gracewood State School and Hospital as a nursing aide, retiring with over twenty years of service. During this time, she and her sisters would take trips to sites all along the eastern seaboard. She also loved going to the beach where she collected seashells and just sat listening to the ocean, which soothed her soul. Edith liked to cross-stitch, put together puzzles and complete crossword puzzles.  She will be remembered for her spunky, feisty attitude, her great sense of humor and infectious laugh. Edith’s greatest joy and pleasure was her family, whom she loved unconditionally. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren filled some of the void left from the loss of her three beloved children.  Death has left a void that no one can fill, but her love has left memories that no one can steal.

Edith is also preceded in death by her three children, Steve Allen, Kandy McClendon and Carl Allen; and five siblings, Hermon Jones, Geraldine Robinson, Ronald Jones, Virginia Glover and Roland “Buck” Jones. Those left to cherish her memory include her three granddaughters, Sierra N. Meeks (Eric), Ariel Lampkin (James) and Jasmine Ellis (Johnathan); sister, Zora Smith of Blythe; eleven great grandchildren, Eric Meeks Jr., Aaliyah Meeks, Holly Meeks Makayla Meeks, Paisley Meeks, Shalynn Lampkin, Jace Lampkin, Christian Ellis, Kallyns Ellis, Ryleigh Ellis and Harmonie Ellis; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, January 10 2018, from 3:00 – 4:00 P.M. following the services.

To Those Whom I Love

When I am gone, release me—let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears;
Be happy that I have had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love each have shown
But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part
So cherish the memories in your heart.
I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So, if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All of my love around you soft and clear.
Then, when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and a “Welcome Home”.
