Dorothy “Gladys” Stewart Whited
Matthews, GA – Dorothy “Gladys” Stewart Whited, 87, loving mother and sister, entered into her eternal rest Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2019 at University Hospital. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday morning, July 3, 2019, with the Reverend Robert Daughtry officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.
One of six born to the late Nancy Rowland Stewart and the late Lucius “Tom” Stewart, Gladys was a lifelong resident of Matthews. She attended Matthews School after which she married and started her family. Going through a divorce in 1955, she began her career as a seamstress at Burke Manufacturing, retiring with 38 years of service. Gladys loved to go to gospel sings and attended Crossroads Evangelistic Church. She loved being outdoors and could be found working in her flowers and raking her yard. Gladys also like to play cards, gin rummy being her game of choice. She also loved to cook for her family, and even her pets. She has been described as a determined, straight-forward person who loved to tell jokes, pull pranks and laugh. Gladys loved her family unconditionally and was most content in their presence.
Gladys was also preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Jean Whited; and three brothers, Pete Stewart, Robert Stewart and Milton Stewart. Her survivors include two daughters, Janice W. Reese (Dennis) and Wanda W. Rabun (Timmie); two sisters, Frances Gay and Rosa Lee Kitchens; four grandchildren, Ricky Williams, Wesley Williams, Kevin Woods (Kylee) and Stacy Rabun (Leigh); four great grandchildren, Christian Williams, Kaylee Woods, Amanda Rabun and Steven Rabun; one great-great granddaughter, Ansley Rabun; special great niece, Nikki Tarver; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dean Maruca, Nicholas Stewart, Christian Williams, Ricky Williams, Wesley Williams and Kevin Woods. Stacy Rabun will be an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, July 2, 2019.
