Dorothy Lou Stewart Rabun (“Dot”), 90, of Louisville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 6, 2023.
Dot was born on May 18th, 1933, in White Plains, to the late Clinton J. Stewart and the late Dorothy Ward Stewart. After high school, Dot attended Athens Business School where she met her husband of almost 71 years, J. Sam L. Rabun. Dot and Sam were married in 1952 and moved to Oakland, California, where Sam served in the U.S. Navy.
After returning to Georgia, they moved to Athens and then to Macon where their children were born. Later, Dot and Sam returned to the Rabun farm in Louisville where they built a home to raise their family. In Louisville, Dot worked for the Federal Land Bank for almost thirty years.
Dot was a true Southern lady—strong, tenacious, and kind. She loved to welcome people into her home and to prepare wonderful meals for her guests. Everyone enjoyed her vegetables (especially creamed corn), biscuits, cakes, and pies. She was a Master 4-H'er in the Dress Revue Project. Her talent for sewing was well known, as many benefited from her gifts of embroidery and crochet (especially her baby blankets).
Dot was a proud member of the John Franklin Wren Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a patriot who supported history, the military, and education.
Dot was a woman of deep faith, fervent in her prayers and disciplined in her study of the Bible. Graciously, her love for the Lord began when she was young and continued throughout her life. Dot was an active member of Wrens Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, C.J. Stewart, Jr., and sister-in-law, Sue Stewart, as well as her sister-in-law, Myra Stewart, and brother-in-law, Martin Grizzard.
Survivors include her husband, Sam, and her children, Dottie Lewis (Ike) of Greensboro and Robert Rabun (Connie) of Avera; her grandsons, Luke Rabun (Katy) of Elmira, Oregon, Chip Lewis (Callie) of Kailua, Hawaii, and Rabun Lewis (Laney) of Atlanta; six great-grandchildren, Walker Lewis, Beau Rabun, Ena Lewis, Guy Lewis, Blaise Lewis, and Sally Lewis; her brother, Wilburn Stewart of Claxton; and sisters, Betty Grizzard of Thomaston and Vivian Ledford (J.D.) of Young Harris.
The pall bearers are Dot’s grandsons, Luke Rabun, Chip Lewis, and Rabun Lewis and her nephews, Mark Stewart, Kenny Stewart, Stacy Grizzard, Dr. Stewart Grizzard, Dan Gibson, Dr. Clint Ledford, and Robbie Rabun. Honorary pallbearers are members of the John Franklin Wren Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Dot’s family is grateful to Silver Linings in Stapleton, the Harbor at Harmony Crossing in Eatonton, and Compassus Hospice Care in Macon for the quality of care offered to Dot in the last years of her life.
Please join us in celebrating Dot’s life on Wednesday October 11th, 2023, at Wrens Baptist Church during a visitation from 10:30am – 12:30pm and a funeral service at 1:30pm.
