Donna Jones Story
Matthews, GA – Donna Jones Story, 71, loving wife of 45 years to the late James “Phillip” Story Sr., entered into her eternal rest early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2020, at her residence. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the Ways Baptist Church at 11:30 A.M. Friday morning, July 17, 2020, with Rev. Wayne Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
One of three children born to the late Frankie Ash Haulbrook Jones and the late John Paul Jones, Donna was a lifelong resident of Matthews, graduating from Wrens High School in 1967. After earning her education degree in 1971 from Georgia Southern College, she taught elementary school at Wrens Elementary before going to Edmund Burke Academy where she started their kindergarten programs. After 25 years with Edmund Burke, she left to teach at Hephzibah Elementary, finally retiring after 45 years of teaching. During the summer months, Donna taught swimming lessons to children, many of whom still fondly recall learning to swim at the family pool. Donna loved her Lord and Savior, accepting His free gift of salvation as a young girl and serving Him at Ways Baptist Church, where she was on many committees and taught Sunday School. She loved being outdoors, especially working in her garden. She was known for being a great cook—she found great pleasure cooking for her family and social gatherings. Donna did enjoy going to the beach with her family as well as the spring and summer trips to the beach with “the girls”—her classmates from high school. A dedicated and loyal friend, her friendships lasted a lifetime. Having a servant’s heart, Donna had a loving and giving spirit, as well as a humble, grateful outlook on life. Her greatest treasure was her family to whom she was completely devoted and loved unconditionally. Her grandchildren were her heart and they gave her much joy and pleasure. Donna loved greatly and was greatly loved: she is now in Glory, experiencing His love forever.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James Phillip Story Jr. (Juliet) and Matthew Jones Story (Jacey); grandchildren, Trey Story, Kadin Story, Harrison Story, Madi Story and Ivy Story; two siblings, Mike Jones (Meta) and Beth Flowers; nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be her three grandsons—Trey, Kadin and Harrison—as well as Clint Flowers, Robert Jones, Wallace Jones, Troy Stewart and Brent Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. at Ways Baptist Church prior to the services Friday morning, July 17, 2020.
Memorial contributions be made to Ways Baptist Church Pastor/Deacon Fund, c/o Peggiann Chalker, 314 Quaker Road, Wrens, GA 30833.
Because of mandates and the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is encouraged.
