Dekle Dean Todd Jr.

Dekle Dean Todd Jr., 64, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2025, at Jefferson Hospital. 

Born in Beaufort SC to Peggy Sikes Todd Moxley and the late Dekle Dean Todd Sr, Dekle was a proud graduate of SE Bulloch County High School in Statesboro. Following his graduation, he dedicated his career to the trades, carving out a successful path as an electrician, millwright and welder. He was a respected member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and made significant contributions during his time working for Billy Weeks in Wadley, Two-State Construction in Thomson and retiring from Battle Lumber Company in Wadley.

Known for his easy-going and gregarious personality, Dekle never met a stranger. He had a unique gift for connecting with people and cherished every opportunity to engage in conversation. Those who were fortunate enough to know him often highlighted his loyalty as a friend, his generous spirit, and his genuine concern for others.

Dekle’s interests were diverse and deeply rooted in his love for nature and family. He found great joy in fishing and hunting, often taking solace in these activities. On his last day, he spent time casting a line, a moment that brought him peace. His deep affection for his family was evident, especially in his relationship with his mother, Peggy Todd Moxley, and his unwavering support for his “wayward children” – the children he mentored and took under his wing.

An avid tinkerer, Dekle loved to work on anything electrical, striving to give new life to items that needed a second chance. He considered himself a collector, with aspirations of revitalizing his treasures. Music, particularly rock 'n roll and Elvis’ gospel recordings, resonated with his soul.

A faithful servant, Dekle accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on February 7, 1979. He actively served at the Community Church of Christ in Blythe, where he fostered relationships with his church family. Even though his road in life was rough, his faith sustained him until the end. 

Dekle is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Green Todd; children, Dekle Wheaton (Jennifer), Dekle Todd III, Joshua Maxwell (Lisa), Austin Maxwell, and Chuck Jones; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Lilly Morgan, Adam Morgan, Jasmine Morgan, Violet Morgan, Xavier Maxwell, Draven Maxwell, Anya Maxwell, Aubree Jones, Kayla Jones and Dean Livingston. He is also survived by his sister, Lisa T. Hadden (David); several nieces, nephews, extended family, “wayward children”, and a multitude of friends from his community and church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dekle Todd Sr., and his brother, Calvin Todd.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 8, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at James Funeral Home. Visitation will follow immediately after from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Dekle Dean Todd Jr. will be remembered as a kind-hearted individual whose compassion touched the lives of many. His legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
