Deborah Ann Weaver Wilkerson, 63, a beloved educator and media specialist, peacefully entered into her eternity at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta. Entering this world on December 17, 1960, in Ashburn, GA, and departing on June 11, 2024, Deborah’s journey on this Earth was marked by resilience, love, and a deep appreciation of life.
After graduating from Hart County High School, Deborah obtained an Associate of Arts Degree from Emmanuel College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tift College and a Masters in Media Science from Georgia Southern. She then dedicated 38 years of her life to teaching the wonders of history and serving as a media specialist for Jefferson County Board of Education in Louisville. Her former students often spoke of the positive influence she had on them. Throughout her career, Deborah's bright soul and leadership shone through as she encouraged and uplifted those around her, always emphasizing their strengths and abilities.
Deborah was known for her generosity, compassion, and loyalty by family, co-workers, and students alike. Her charming personality, sweetness and honesty—always speaking her truth with a directness that was both refreshing and genuine—endeared her to all who knew her. She had a big personality and lived life large, spreading joy and positivity wherever she went.
Aside from her professional life, Deborah enjoyed various hobbies. Known as a fashion diva, she loved bling! A very good cook, she loved watching cooking shows and found great joy having family gatherings and sharing the abundance of delicious food she prepared for everyone. Deborah had a passion for flowers and enjoyed her numerous flower beds throughout her yard. Her simple pleasures included sitting outside, listening to her wind chimes and watching nature. She had a natural talent for decorating and loved decorating her home for every holiday. She was also an avid fan of the George Bulldogs and loved everything about “her DAWGS”.
A past member of the Louisville Methodist Church, Deborah devoted her beautiful, God-given voice to praise Jesus in the choir where she often had solo parts during Easter and Christmas Cantatas. She had a great love for her choir family and missed their fellowship.
Having a deep, abiding devotion to one another, Deborah will be sorely missed by her loving husband of 22 years, Gary D. Wilkerson. Others who suffer the sorrow of her passing include her sister Linda Weaver; special friends Michelle and Brett Hadden; nephews Brooks Weaver (Sabrina), and Jamie Weaver; niece Elizabeth Lumpkin; God-Daughters Linnea Rogers and KayAnna Tedder (Michael); along with a host of students, friends, and church family who will all cherish her memory. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Tony Doll, Brett Hadden, Chris Lumpkin, Tony Otis, Greg Smart, and William Toulson. Those who have gone on before her include her parents, Ida Stephens Weaver and James Edward Weaver, as well as her two siblings, Susan Lumpkin and Eddie Weaver.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM Monday evening, June 17, 2024 at James Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Deborah’s life will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday morning, June 18, 2024, at the Louisville Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Underwood and Rev. Joshua Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in the Stapleton Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Stapleton Baptist Church.
In the hearts of those who knew her best, Deborah will be remembered for her kind spirit, unwavering positivity, and lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with such a remarkable woman.
