David Bryant Houston

Wrens, GA –               David Bryant Houston, 64, peacefully entered into his eternal rest Thursday afternoon, August 4, 2022 at his residence. Services to celebrate his life will be held at Believers Baptist Church at 12:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon, August 21, 2022 with Reverend Stacy Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in James Family Cemetery located on Campground Road near Ways Baptist Church Cemetery.

An “Army brat”, David was born in Germany and the family has lived in Maryland, North Carolina, Arizona before settling in Georgia. He owned a trucking company and was a long-haul truck driver.  He loved to travel so this was a perfect occupation for him. For those who remember video stores, David owned the first video store in Wrens. He also loved taking personal trips and riding his motor cycles.  Not only was he an avid hunter, but also a gun enthusiast. David was known not only for his garden and its produce, but also for his canning and preserving the bounty of that garden. David was very adaptable and loved learning new things.  He was always busy doing something—building bird cages, and various other things, putting up fences, mowing the lawn, etc.  He was described as being a “neat freak” and “pack rat” at the same time. During all his activities, he would listen to classic rock and country music as well as blue grass gospel.  A staunch conservative, he joined the DC truck convoy in support of Trump.  A true patriot, David loved and believed in America and freedom.  He was very outspoken in his conservative views and being a hard worker before experiencing his debilitating health issues, he had very little patience for laziness and the idea of entitlement. David never met a stranger, made friends easily and generously helped others, often anonymously.   David loved God and was not shy about sharing that love with others. He could be found reading and studying the Bible or other Biblical study materials and journals.  An unapologetic believer, he was especially grateful for the free gift of salvation, always acknowledging the fact that he was a sinner saved by grace and “preached” to others about the pitfalls of judging others; the necessity of confessing sin; and the freedom of forgiveness.  He found and loved his church home at Believers Baptist Church. This intelligent, unique man of God will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.  Jesus accompanied David to his eternal home in Heaven where he is now pain-free and experiencing perfect love and joy.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Irelle Eldridge Houston; and two siblings, Regina Wood and Eric Houston.  Those left to cherish his memories include his father, Reginald Houston; life partner, Lori Houston; daughters, Brittany Reese (Charles) and Desiree Houston; step sons, Christopher Brown, Daniel Brown, Jason Brown, Charles Bradley and Bruce Bradley; eighteen (18) grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers, Allen Houston and Royce Houston; three nephews, two nieces, church family and friends.
