Cyrus “White” Kitchens III
Wrens, GA – Cyrus “White” Kitchens III, 93, loving husband of 69 years to Patty Jane Veal Kitchens, peacefully entered into his eternal rest Sunday morning, March 26, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2017 at Wrens Baptist Church with Dr. James M. Ford and Reverend Carson Fellows officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
The only son and eldest of five children of the late Nettie Rae Jenkins Kitchens and the late Cyrus White Kitchens Jr., White was born in the same room of the house from which he departed this earth for his eternal home. After graduating from Wrens High School, he attended the University of Georgia for a year before serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Upon his return home from service, he owned and operated a grocery business in Wadley and in Wrens, and then a furniture business in Wrens, retiring at its closing. His pastimes were filled with riding horses and gardening. A past member of the Wadley Lions Club and Wrens Kiwanis, and a current member of American Legion Post # 229, White was active in community events. Described as “a character”, he had an engaging personality and great sense of humor which was manifested in his smile and the twinkle in his eye as he lovingly “picked” at his loved ones and friends. White accepted God’s free gift of salvation through His son, Jesus, at the young age of 8, serving his Lord and Savior faithfully at Wrens Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He never sought recognition for himself and reflected the love of Christ in his love for his family, church, community and friends.
White was also preceded in death by his sister, Ann Lewis. Other survivors include his sons, J.W. Kitchens (Derry) and Thomas Veal Kitchens; three sisters, Fay McNair, Carolyn Cox and Marian Evans (Melvin); two grandsons, Ezra Kitchens and Noah Kitchens; several nieces and nephews; and his church family. Pallbearers will be Ezra Kitchens, Noah Kitchens, Billy Lewis, Charles Lewis Jr., Greg Lewis, Emory Clements, Randy Smith and Ray Smith. Serving as honorary pallbearers is the Willis Clark Sunday School class and Wrens Baptist Church Deacons.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Wrens Memorial Cemetery, c/o Hugh Fleming, 104 Norton Drive, Wrens GA 30833 or to Wrens Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217, Wrens GA 30833.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service at Wrens Baptist Church from 12:30 – 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2017.
