Curtis “Don” Kidd
Hephzibah, GA – Curtis “Don” Kidd, 80, loving husband to the late Ruth Fulfer Kidd, entered into his eternal rest late Sunday night, December 19, 2021 at University Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church will be held at a later date when his grandson returns from his tour in the Navy.
The only son of the late Nina McCormick Kidd and the late Beatrice Kidd, Don was born and grew up in Spur TX. After graduating from Spur High School in 1959, he attended Eastern New Mexico University on a football scholarship where he received one of his bachelor degrees. He then started working at the Lubbock Journal and then the Ft. Worth Star Telegraph. After meeting his best friend’s sister, they quickly became best friends and the love of each other’s life, marrying and dedicating their union to God on Don’s 21st birthday in 1962. Having a life changing experience and accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior, Don was led to go into the ministry, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies at Southwestern Theological Seminary and his Masters and Doctorate in Divinity at Bethany Bible College and Seminary in Dothan AL. His ministry took him to several churches in Texas, Georgia and South Carolina—Bethesda Baptist Church in Harlem, Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Wrens, Pine Forest Baptist Church in Aiken and retiring from Lydia Baptist Church in Seneca. After his soul-mate went to her eternal home in 2011, he moved to Hephzibah to live with his daughter. Don was very much a people-person and had a great love for others. He was always communicating and sharing Jesus with people all over the world—through his ham radio, cell phone, Facebook and other social media outlets, his blogs, etc. He was always “busy”—reading, studying the Bible, listening to Southern gospel music, and reaching out to people. He was known and remembered for his humor—he would tell everyone that he was the biggest kidd they would every know!—and for his immense capacity to love. Don is now worshiping his Lord in his forever home.
Don was also preceded in death by his son, Chris Kidd. Those left to cherish his memories include his daughter, Cindy D. Fortier (Butch); grandson, Chris Holley (Danielle); two great granddaughters, Freya Holley and Eris Holley; sister, Judy Stark (Lynn); and a multitude of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 563, Wrens GA 30833.
