Curtis Gadson Thigpen

Avera, GA –    Curtis Gadson Thigpen, 102, loving husband of 67 years to the late Agnes Clark Thigpen, peacefully when home to be with the Lord Friday night, December 9, 2022, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, December 13, 2022, with Garry Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Born to the late Annie Lou Faglie Thigpen Brassell and the late Gadson Cornelius Thigpen, Curtis was a lifelong resident of Avera, Georgia, and was a 1937 graduate of Avera High School.  He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 19.  Following his military service during World War II, he married his sweetheart, Agnes Clark.  After some years in secular employment, he took an early retirement from Ft Gordon in 1970 to devote his life to Christian work. Most recently, he was in fellowship at Gospel Chapel in Avera.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, H. Barnett Thigpen, and several infant siblings, as well as his stepfather, Jesse Brassell, of Avera.

He is survived by two daughters, Patsy Thigpen, Avera, and Sheryl McDonald (Tony) Honea Path SC; three grandchildren, Jason McDonald (Jill) of Anderson SC, Jane Howard (Walter) of Travelers Rest SC, and Mark McDonald of Moore SC; and three great grandchildren, Emily, Abigail and Will McDonald of Anderson SC.

Pallbearers will include Scott Shepherd, Scott Gunter, Will McDonald, Dr. Ted Oellerich, Mike Thigpen and Randy Rhodes.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Gospel Chapel, 1074 Sunset Boulevard, Avera GA 30803.  All gifts will be distributed to various missionary organizations around the world to continue the spread of the gospel that he loved to proclaim.

Family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:00-2:30PM on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, prior to the funeral service.
