Christopher “Charles” Blizzard
Blythe, GA – Christopher “Charles” Blizzard, 75, loving companion of Brenda Linderman and loving husband to the late Martha Jane Council Blizzard, entered into his eternal rest Thursday morning, April 25, 2019, at Augusta University. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2019, with Dr. David Blizzard officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Blythe Baptist Church Cemetery.
The eldest of nine children, Charles was born at Camp Gordon to the late Elizabeth Coleman Blizzard and the late Christopher Neal Blizzard. A lifelong resident of the Hephzibah-Blythe area, he graduated from Hephzibah High School after which he joined the Army. Charles was a true patriot—he loved his country and served with honor. He retired as a supply clerk for The Medical College of Georgia, now known as Augusta University. Known for his woodworking ability and hand-made crafts, he also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. His favorite TV shows were Andy Griffin and Gunsmoke, which he watched every day. A Baptist by faith, Charles loved his Lord and Savior, and loved listening to gospel music, especially Southern Gospel. An animal lover, Lulu, his canine buddy, provided great pleasure and company to him. Not having children of his own, he loved and treated his nieces and nephews as his and spoke of them to anyone who would listen. Honest to a fault and being outspoken in his thoughts and perspective, you always knew where you stood with Charles—he said what he meant and meant what he said. This quiet, unassuming man will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Charles was also preceded in death by an infant brother. Survivors include his eight siblings, Ora Newsome (Billy), Jimmy Blizzard (Phyllis), Fay Newsome Axon, Mary Ann DuBose (David), Betty Ruth Koon (Paul), Phebe Blizzard, Henry Blizzard (Sandy) and David Blizzard (Carolyn); a multitude of nieces and nephews; and many friends. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews and Eddie Bargeron.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:30 – 3:30 P.M. prior to the services Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2019.
