Charlotte Emilio Ruley, 90, peacefully entered into her eternal Heavenly home on December 5, 2023, in Stapleton. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 8, 2023 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Christie McTier officiating. The family will greet friends from 3:00-4:30 P.M. after the service.
Charlotte was born on July 2, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, and a 1951 graduate of Brooklyn High School. After completing her education, she pursued and obtained her certificate of cosmetology.
In 1954, at the age of 21, Charlotte married and started a family. She moved to Georgia and settled in McDuffie County, where she made a loving home for her four daughters. Despite facing challenges when her marriage ended, Charlotte persevered with immense strength and resilience. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children and ensuring their well-being and happiness were the center of her focus.
One fateful night, Charlotte went out with friends and met the love of her life. It was an instant connection that proved to be a divine intervention. Recognizing that God had answered her prayers, Charlotte found her "knight in shining armor." In 1973, they joined their families together through marriage and made their home in McBean before settling in Stapleton in 1986.
Charlotte's family was the heart of her world. She was devoted to them beyond measure and made any sacrifice necessary to create a safe haven filled with love. Her strong faith in God guided every aspect of her life. For three decades, she diligently participated in the Shepherd's Chapel Bible Study on TV alongside her beloved husband, deepening her understanding and growing her faith.
Charlotte had a remarkable personality that left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Known affectionately as an Italian Yankee, she embodied both warmth and wisdom. Her family always found solace in her nurturing presence, and she was often referred to as the "protective mama." Charlotte's love knew no bounds, and she continuously displayed tremendous strength in her role as the rock of the family.
Beyond her dedication to her family, Charlotte also cultivated many hobbies and interests throughout her life. In her younger years, she loved gliding gracefully on roller skates. Crocheting brought her joy and allowed her to create beautiful pieces that filled their home with warmth. Shopping and dining out, especially at her favorite restaurant, Cracker Barrel, were cherished pastimes for Charlotte. She was always ready for an adventure and loved traveling near and far. Charlotte found solace in reading, particularly her Bible, which served as a guiding light in her life. Word games and watching Wheel of Fortune added an element of fun to her daily routine.
Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her children, whose lives have been profoundly impacted by their mother’s unwavering love and support, Laura Cason, Debra Haywood, Cynthia Holland (Greg), Teresa Purcell (Jeff), Aleta Ruley (Crosby Farnsworth), Danny Ruley Jr. (Lorena), and Willie Ruley (Carmen); fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Charlotte is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Lawrence Daniel Ruley Sr.--their love transcended time and created a strong foundation for their united family; her parents Laura Gattis Emilio and Frank Emilio, as well as all seven of her siblings who have gone before her.
The memory of Charlotte Emilio Ruley will be forever cherished by her family and friends. She touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression of love, kindness, and strength. While she may no longer be physically present, her spirit will continue to inspire and to guide all of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Southeast Hospice for their loving, compassionate and professional care.
