Charles Riley Prescott
Wrens, GA – Charles Riley Prescott, 88, entered into his eternal rest Tuesday morning, January 26, 2016 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning, January 30, 2016 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.
Charlie was one of three sons (the middle son) born to the late Carrie Anne Riley Prescott and the late James “Jim” Atkinson Prescott and was a lifelong resident of Wrens. After graduating Wrens High School, he attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran after which he went into commercial real estate. He loved his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Augusta where he served Him as a past deacon, usher, worked with the youth, and in various other capacities. Even though he was a private person, Charles was keenly aware of his surroundings and was active in community politics, always ready to voice his opinion whether asked or not—he loved engaging conversations. A dedicated man of commitment, he could be found faithfully mowing the grass around the pond and the private Beasley Family Cemetery. An avid, lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs—GO DAWGS—he loved being between the hedges. He also found great pleasure going fishing and being with his cats. Never having married, he was very close to his nieces and nephews and loved them as his own. For all who knew him, Charlie was a character who will not be forgotten.
Charles is also preceded in death by his older brother, James A. Prescott, Jr. Survivors include his younger brother, Walter E. Prescott and wife, Eva; two nieces, Margie Swint and husband Reuben, and Sandra Foster; four nephews, Richard W. Prescott and wife Ina, James W. Prescott and wife Joyce, Raymond E. Prescott and wife Susan, and Tommy Prescott and wife Nancy; twelve great nieces and nephews; and his Christian brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be Daniel Foster, Joel Foster, Scott Prah, Jesse Prescott, John Prescott and Moises Sanchez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Usher Board of First Baptist Church of Augusta.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Ext., Augusta GA 30909.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 9:30-11:00 A.M. Saturday morning, January 30, 2016 prior to the funeral service.
