Carolyn Virginia Atwell Rabun
Wrens, GA – Carolyn Virginia Atwell Rabun, 95, loving wife to the late R G Rabun, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Wednesday evening, November 2, 2022 at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday morning, November 7, 2022 at Westover Memorial Park with Reverend Ed Chance officiating.
Carolyn was the only child born to the late Annie Kate Churchill Atwell and the late Royce Edward Atwell. The family moved from Augusta to Wrens during the depression in the early 1930’s when she was a young girl. After graduating from Wrens High School in 1944, she attended college in Statesboro. Carolyn met the love of her life at a “gathering” of young folks, marrying him in 1948. She worked at Atwell Pecan Co. and Wrens Discount before deciding to be a full-time homemaker and stay-at-home mom. Her first priority was her family and was committed to making their home a loving, safe-haven where everyone felt secure and loved. Carolyn and RG enjoyed their many trips with First State Bank Directors as well as attending the Georgia Mountain Fair where they loved to listen to the country and blue grass music. She loved to relax by cross stitching. Carolyn was intrigued and spent a lot of time with ancestry and plotting her family history. She was known to be “feisty” and to “speak her mind”. It has been said that, because she was an only child, she enjoyed a lot of attention. Carolyn accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age, serving Him in the fellowship of Wrens United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a part of the Ladies prayer group, was a youth leader for MYF, and served in various other capacities. She loved her family unabashedly and unconditionally. Spending time with her children and grandchildren provided her with great joy and happiness. She was so proud of her family—her legacy. Carolyn has now joined her husband in her forever home in Heaven where she is singing praises and worshiping at the Throne of God.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Frances Rabun Williford (Everett), Virginia Rabun Garrett, and Edward Rabun (Amanda); five grandchildren, Christi Williford (Brad Kosel), Addie Holzman (Langdon), Shelly Parker (Patrick), Jessica Johns (Andy), and Jamey Rabun (Rachel); eleven grandchildren, Cash Kosel, Harley Kosel, Finley Holzman, Arden Holzman, Tucker Parker, Javan Parker, Baylor Parker, Braden Johns, Alexis Farley, Jacob Rabun and Abigail Rabun; church family and many friends.
The family strongly suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Wrens United Methodist Church, 202 Russell Street, Wrens GA 30833.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening, November 6, 2022.
