Brian Eugene Simmons

Wrens, GA –               Brian Eugene Simmons, 59, loving husband of 30 years to Tammy May Simmons, met his Lord face-to-face early Wednesday morning, January 27, 2021, entering his eternal rest from Augusta University Medical Center. Services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2021 with Brother Bennie Bush officiating.  A visitation will be held prior to the services from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

Growing up in south Augusta, Brian was one of three sons born to Gail Lannette Reed Simmons and the late Donald Eugene Simmons. After graduating from Hephzibah High School, he served our country by joining the Air Force, where he taught airplane mechanics for the C130 cargo plane.  After serving for 10 years, he came home to Hephzibah and got a job with Serta Mattress.  Because of their love of movies, he met the love of his life, marrying and moving to Jefferson County where they started their family.  He then began his career with Central Steel as a draftsman. After 20 years with Central Steel, he left for opportunities with Cranston Engineering in 2016.  Brian loved cycling—riding his bike—which gave him great pleasure in being outdoors and was a stress relief.  Known as “Mr. Fixit”, he was always “fixin” something—even if he didn’t know how, he would take on the project and work on it until he figured it out and “fixed” it. A founding member of Word Aflame Pentecostal Church, Brian loved his Lord and Savior and served Him faithfully as the Outreach Director and Song Service Leader. He loved being in church with like-minded believers, but he also loved to share Jesus with everyone wherever he went.  Brian had a servant’s heart and was always helping others to the point of sacrificial giving.  He was selfless and always put others first.  Brian had an exuberant personality and a big, genuine smile that brightened everyone’s day.  He was known for his dry sense of humor and wit. Most of all, Brian was a Godly family man who loved with an unconditional, steadfast love.  Our hearts are darkened and saddened by his passing but Heaven, his eternal home, is a little brighter as Brian worships and sings praises in Glory.

Brian was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brianna Nicole Simmons; and brother, Cecil Simmons. Others left to cherish his memories include his children, Marc P. Simmons, Natasha S. VanArkel (Dustin), Joshua Simmons and Sierra Simmons; brother, Jeff Simmons (Mary); four grandchildren, McKenzi Craft, Norah Allen, and twins, Cooper and Parker VanArkel; nieces, nephews, in-laws, other extended family, church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to Pace Line, Momentum Officer, PO Box 2268, Evans GA30809 earmarked for Brian or donate online, in memory of Brian, at pacelineride.org. .
