Billy “Gregory” Watts
Keysville, GA – Billy “Gregory” Watts, 67, loving husband of Lisa Key Watts, peacefully entered into his eternal rest Monday morning, November 22, 2021, at University Hospital in Augusta. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, November 24, 2021 with Rev. Tate Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
One of ten children born to the late Agnes Louise Hayes Watts and the late Billy Watts, Greg was a life-long resident of the Keysville area and attended school in Burke County. He quit school in order to help support the family and started his own tile setting company. Being a “good ‘ole country boy”, he was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Two very significant and important events for Greg were meeting and marrying the love of his life, Lisa, and, most importantly, when he became a new man by choosing to accept God’s free gift of salvation through His son, Jesus, on March 21, 1999. He loved his Lord and Savior with his full-heart, serving Him at South Haven Baptist Church. Meeting Jesus gave him a new and urgent concern for his family and fellow man—he openly and unabashedly proclaimed and shared Jesus with everyone he met. Greg did enjoy country music, but it was gospel music that gave him joy and soothed his soul. He has been described as being loving, caring, generous to a fault with a quiet, friendly, out-going nature. He readily had open arms for everyone and was a pillar of calm strength for his family. Above all else, Greg was most proud and humbled to be known as A Man of God. Shedding his temporary cancer-riddled earthly body for a new pain-free eternal body, Greg is now spending eternity in Glory with his precious Lord and awaiting the arrival of those he has left behind.
Greg is also preceded in death by two siblings, Toby Watts and Brenda Watts. Others left to cherish his memories include his two sons, Greg Watts Jr. and Ashley Watts (Cat); seven grandchildren, Tabatha Watts, Cody Watts, Killian Watts, Abbey Watts, Aubrey Watts, Allyson Watts and Wesley Brown; siblings, Peanut Watts, Tony Watts, Don Watts (Norma), Lisa Watts, Randall Hillis, Billie Joe Tompkins and Steve Watts; mother and father in-law, Betty and Robert Key; brothers-in-law, Mike Key, Jaimie Key and Kenneth Key; a multitude of nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Nick Atkinson, Chris James, Jaimie Key, Mike Key, Don Watts and Steve Watts.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:00-2:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 24, 2021 prior to the funeral service.
