Betty Jane Thompson Dowdy
Wrens, GA – Betty Jane Thompson Dowdy, 87, entered into her eternal rest Thursday morning, February 6, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, February 9, 2020 at Wrens Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Carl Geisik officiating.
A native of Wrens, Betty Jane graduated from Wrens High School, after which she volunteered as an EMT before starting work at Stapleton Garment Company. Upon her retirement from Stapleton Garment Company, she became a substitute teacher at Wrens Elementary School and Wrens Middle School. From 1999 until her health decline, Betty Jane also volunteered at the Community Food Bank. She loved her Lord and Savior and faithfully served Him as a member of Wrens Church of God.
Betty Jane was preceded in death by her son, Keith Dowdy; her mother, Mary Elizabeth Hamilton Thompson Miller; her step-father, A. M. Miller; and daughter-in-law, Janice Prescott Dowdy. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Bruce Dowdy; siblings, Mary Ann Clements (Raley), Bernie Thompson (Gail), Kay Sturm and David Thompson (Donna); four grandchildren, Brian C. Dowdy (Ashley), Nicholas H. Dowdy (Mindy), Casey Reid (Jess) and Megan Dowdy; eight great grandchildren, Hailey Dowdy, Lexi Dowdy, Luke Dowdy, Abby Dowdy, Austin Dowdy, Kaylee Reid, Rhett Reid and Joss Reid; her church family and many friends.
The family will receive friends after the services Sunday afternoon or at the home of Bruce Dowdy.
