Betty Ann Kitchens

Avera, GA –                Betty Ann Kitchens, 75, loving daughter of the late Virginia India Ellis Kitchens and the late Albert Lamar Kitchens, entered into her eternal rest Thursday morning, January 30, 2020 at University Hospital. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, February 1, 2020 with the Reverends John Beck and Ronnie Howell officiating. Interment will follow in the Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born and raised in Glascock County, Betty Ann graduated from Glascock County Consolidated School after which she worked at various manufacturing companies, including Stapleton Garment Company and Uniroyal, and odd jobs before starting her career in food service.  She retired after 36 years of service as the Food Service Manager for Glascock County Consolidated School.  Betty Ann was perfectly suited for this job—she was a great cook and loved to bake, and she loved children.  As a young girl, Betty Ann accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, serving Him as a member of Zoar United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School for many years. When she moved to Avera in 2001, she started attending Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class and actively participated in their Senior Citizens club. Betty Ann loved to vacation at the beach and the mountains. She also enjoyed working in her garden.  Most of all, Betty Ann’s greatest pleasure was cooking and baking for her family, who she loved with all of her being.  Being kind, considerate and giving, she poured her love into people, especially children. She left a legacy of love behind as she entered the promise land.

Betty Ann was also preceded in death by her brother, Judson Lamar Kitchens; and her nephew, William Anthony Kitchens. Those left to cherish her memory include her siblings, Alice K. Reynolds and William “Bill” Preston Kitchens; sister-in-law, Bobbie K. Williams (Lindy); nieces and nephews, Marie Durden (Marty), William Reynolds (Kathy), Jamie  Reynolds (Kelly), Cathy Key and Gary Kitchens (Kristi); 15 great nieces and nephews, church family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Clark, Russell Clark, Gary Kitchens, Hunter Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds, Timothy Reynolds, Tyler A. Reynolds and William Reynolds. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Preston Key, Taylor Key, Lonnie Ledger, Jamie Reynolds, Tyler K. Reynolds, and Pleasant Grove Friendship Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that memorial contributions be made to Methodist Home For Children & Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon GA 31204 or to The Gideons International, Attn:  Jack McCorkle, PO Box 1774, Thomson GA 30824 (online at www.gideons.org).
