Betty Jane Taylor Key

Hephzibah, GA –        Betty Jane Taylor Key, 76, loving wife of 57 years to Robert Lawrence Key Sr., peacefully entered into her eternal rest early Friday morning, January 7, 2022. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon, January 9, 2022 with Rev. Tate Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

The eldest of six born to the late Mary Helen Saxon Taylor and the late Dial Silas Taylor, Betty Jane was a native of Washington, but was raised in Augusta after her family moved there when she was a young girl. Always industrious and a hard-worker, she worked as a seamstress at Thomson Company for many years, then as a cook at Burke County High School and finally as a health care technician at Gracewood where she retired after thirteen years of service. She loved working in her yards and tending her flowers, as well as planting and working in her vegetable garden. Betty Jane enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, working crossword puzzles and reading.  A great cook, she enjoyed preparing a feast for her family and was known for making the best banana pudding.  Described as being strong-willed, very feisty, loving and generous, Betty Jane was a loyal friend.  She was always fair-minded and believed “right was right and wrong was wrong” with no gray areas.  Having accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, she lived a Christian life not only being an example of God’s love but also teaching and training her children in the Christian walk. She served and worshipped her Lord at South Haven Baptist Church.   Family was her first and top priority. She had an absolute, unwavering, fierce love for each and every one of her family and was the most content and happy when surrounded by her loved ones.  Even though she is no longer here with us physically, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she left behind. Betty Jane is now in her forever home, pain-free in her new body praising our creator—the great I Am.

Betty Jane is also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Greg Watts.  Others left to cherish her memories include her children, Michael Key (Patti), Lisa Key-Watts, Kenneth Key (Jane), Jamie Key (Martha) and Robert Key Jr. (Pat); five siblings, Bobby Taylor (Marie), Ann Rosier (Jim), Duane Taylor (Nancy), Beverly Miller and Cindy Haynes (Gary); thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Key, Kenneth Key, Mike Key, Mike Key Jr., Timothy Key and Shaun Britt.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:00-2:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon, January 9, 2022 prior to the funeral service.
