Betty Ensz Giesbrecht

Stapleton, GA –          Betty Ensz Giesbrecht, 96, peacefully departed this life at Oakwood Manor in Brooksville MS on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Her passing closes this chapter of the Henry Ensz family.  Funeral services will be held in the Pinecrest Mennonite Church at 11:00 A.M. Sunday, August 29, 2031. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

The fourth child of nine children born to the late Anna and Henry Ensz, Betty grew up on the family farm, learning the true values of life.  Everyone worked together, and together and played together. Singing and listening to singing was always an enjoyment. She enjoyed going to the country school and the good times walking to and from school. At fifteen years of age, Betty repented of her sins and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on March 27, 1940. She was faithful to her vows all her life—the Lord was precious to her.  On December 15, 1946, she joined hands in marriage with Alvin Giesbrecht and began their married life on a farm near Ingalls KS. It was a step back for her as they began without electricity.  After ten years, they moved with their young family to the congregation that was forming near Louisville. Betty faithfully filled her place on the dairy farm near Davisboro until moving near the Pinecrest Church for their retirement years. She had resided at Oakwood Manor in Brooksville MS for the last eight years.

Betty was very hospitable, often inviting visitors at the church she had just met to their home—a roast, some bread in the freezer, a plan for desert and she was ready for visitors. She patiently took care of her large family—cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and gardening. Because of her husband’s macular degeneration, she did a lot of driving and reading for him. Betty always had her crochet bag with her and loved quilting.

The family deeply appreciates all those that touched Betty’s life, especially in her sunset years. Many thanks to the Ronnie Holdeman family for their care as well as for all the kind deeds of friends and relatives.  We are especially grateful for the expert, loving care she received at Oakwood Manor.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gerald and Audrey Giesbrecht of Davisboro, Marilyn and Eldon Isaac of Ord NE, Luanne and Lloyd Holdeman of Wrens, Charles and Martha Giesbrecht of Louisville, Rodney and Melva Giesbrecht of Davisboro, Verle and Grace Giesbrecht of Louisville, and Jeffrey and Priscilla Giesbrecht of Stapleton; twenty-nine grandchildren; sixty-eight great grandchildren; fourteen sisters-in-law; and eight brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; one son-in-law, Leroy; one great granddaughter, Whitney; her parents; all of her siblings; eleven sisters-in-law; and sixteen brothers-in-law.

The family will hold a “drop-in” visitation at Pinecrest Mennonite Church from 4:00 – 8:30 P.M. Saturday, August 29, 2021.
