Betty Jean Gray Broome, 78, peacefully entered into her eternity in Heaven on March 29, 2024 at Wellstar MCG (formerly Augusta University) Medical Center. The family will greet friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday evening, April 3, 2024. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00PM Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2024, in the Blythe Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Josh Caines officiating.
Born March 10, 1946, Betty was a beloved member of the Blythe community and led a rich and fulfilling life which was deeply rooted in her hometown. After graduating from Hephzibah High School in 1964, she embarked on a journey filled with love, service, and adventure. In September of 1967, Betty married the love of her life and together they explored the world as he served in the Navy before eventually settling back in Blythe in 1980.
Known for her strength of character and unwavering faith, Betty's life revolved around her family, friends, and community. At the age of 13, she embraced Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior at Blythe Baptist Church and remained a devoted servant of God throughout her lifetime. Her warm and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her and was known to be compassionate, independent, fun-loving, and straight-forward.
In addition to her dedication to faith and family, Betty found joy in simple pleasures and hobbies. Whether tending to her gardens, crocheting baby blankets for loved ones, or enjoying a good book or movie on the Hallmark Channel, she found happiness in the everyday moments. Betty also shared a passion for travel with her husband, especially enjoying holiday-themed cruises and accompanying him on long-haul trips across the U.S.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vernon “Ricky” Wylie Broome Jr.; parents, Lizzie Jane Parker Gray and James Marion Gray Sr.; as well as her brothers, Jimmy Gray and Bobby Joe Gray. Those left to cherish her memories include her devoted son, Vernon "Bubba" Broome III (Janet); grandchildren, Justin Broome, Ariele Delucca, Aaron Hudson, Corey Hudson, Kaida Seavers and Julia Schoonover (Michael); nephews, Jim Gray, David Gray and Jimbo Broome; brother-in-law, Jim Broome (Jan); along with other extended family members and a host of church family and friends.
Betty Jean Gray Broome's legacy of love, faithfulness, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Touching countless lives with her grace and compassion, she will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a pillar of strength within her community.
