Betty Jean Chavis Arnold
Wrens, GA – Betty Jean Chavis Arnold, 82, loving wife of 63 years to Carl E. Arnold, Jr., went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014. A Committal Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 11:00AM in the St. Andrew’s Memorial Garden at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Jacksonville. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, Gulf Breeze FL in June 2014.
Betty was born in Pensacola to the late Willie Mae Nowling Chavis and the late Thomas David Chavis. She lived most of her married life in Pensacola and Jacksonville. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was the heart of her family. She was committed to her faith and as a member of the Episcopal Church Women served on the Alter Guild for many years. After her career with the IRS, she and Carl were blessed to have enjoyed many years of retirement filled with golf, tennis, bridge and traveling—they loved to have fun!
Betty was also preceded in death by eight siblings, J. C. Chavis, Luther Chavis, Vergus Chavis, Levoghn Chavis, Alvin Chavis, Nellie Chavis Smith, Emily Chavis White and Dorothy Chavis Mitchell. Other survivors include her children, Thomas Arnold (Leslie) of Titusville FL, Cynthia Arnold Rabun (Johnny) of Wrens GA, Brenda Arnold Bryant (Larry) of Montgomery TX, and Carla Arnold Ball (David) of San Antonio TX; brother, Clifford Chavis (Mary Ann) of Pensacola; sister-in-law, Hazel Chavis of Tallahassee; ten grandchildren, Heath Rabun (Ashley), Christopher Rabun, Jennifer Bastos (Benny), David Kerr (Sarah), Karin MacLellan (Jerry), Bryan Rabun (Amy), Brett Arnold, Krystin Kilman, Kimberley Jensen (Mark) and Carrie Gordon; fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
