Bennett "David" Carpenter, 77, peacefully transitioned into his Heavenly home at Doctors Hospital Friday night, April 5, 2024. Graveside services to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024, in the Ebenezer Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. The family will greet friends at the home of Erwin Thompson in Louisville after the graveside service.
Born on February 11, 1947, David led a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and unwavering faith, which sustained him through life’s trials.
Born to the late Claudia Rowland Carpenter and the late Hubert Eugene Carpenter, David was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and was a 1967 graduate of Wrens High School. He then began his work career at Thermo King in Louisville. Not long after, he was drafted into the Army and, being a proud patriot, he served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his American values was unwavering throughout his life. After returning home, he resumed his career at Thermo King, retiring after 46 years of dedicated service when the plant closed its doors in 2012.
After boot camp and before shipping out to Viet Nam, David married his high school sweetheart. He loved his family life and everything was idyllic until 1982, when David faced heartbreak with the loss of his wife and unborn daughter. However, fate granted him a second chance at love when he married his second love in June 1983. Together they built a loving family where David placed their well-being above all else. Through his hard work, his main priority was to be a good provider for his family—he was successful in this endeavor. The love for his family knew no bounds.
David was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy in simple pleasures like hunting, fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, and enjoying the outdoors. A skilled craftsman, he could build anything with his hands and even constructed his shop and a barn for his daughter's horse.
A man of faith, David's relationship with Jesus was central to his life. His unwavering belief brought him comfort in times of joy and sorrow alike. His favorite song "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen served as his anthem – a reminder of his patriotism and love for music.
David is also preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Eaves Carpenter, and their daughter, Daphne Carpenter. His legacy lives on through his surviving family members: devoted wife of 41 years, Mary Julia Brown Carpenter; children, Dawn Camp (Leslie), Erwin Thompson (Christy), Annette Quarles, and Jeffrey Thompson; grandchildren, Michael Thompson and Payton Bush; great-grandchild Bree Thompson; and other extended family and friends who cherished him deeply.
In honoring the memory of Bennett "David" Carpenter, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life dedicated to family, work, faith, and service to others. His love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
