Barbara Ann Arrington Evans Durden

Thomson, GA  –         Barbara Ann Arrington Evans Durden, 74, loving wife of the late Frank Durden, entered into her eternal rest Monday morning, July 23, 2018 at her residence. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 6:00 P.M. Friday evening, July 27, 2018 with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Barbara was one of seven children of the late Sallie Mae Whited Arrington and the late William Robert Arrington. She was born and raised in Matthews, attended Wrens Church of God and was a 1962 graduate of Wrens High School. She did attend cosmetology school and worked at various local businesses but her main focus was taking care of her family and home. She moved to Thomson in 2001 upon her marriage to Frank Durden. Barbara was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed Readers Digest.  She also loved music and going to gospel sings. When her health allowed, she liked being outside working in her yards.  Barbara did not meet many strangers—she loved people and getting to know them. A head-strong, independent person, she was vocal about her feelings and you always knew where you stood with her. Even though she suffered through much tragedy in life, Barbara maintained her deep, abiding love for her family.

Barbara was also preceded in death by three siblings, Frances Arrington, Judson Arrington and Julian Arrington. Survivors include her two children, Billy Evans (Shannon) and Lisa Hawkins; three sisters, Carol Rooks, Wilma Hadden and Joyce Kelley (Tony); four grandchildren, Will Evans, Clay Evans, Aleah Hawkins and Erin Cosby; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Because of the unexpected nature of their loss, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home, P.O. Box 588, Wrens GA  30833.

The family will receive friends after the services at James Funeral Home Friday evening, July 27th.

She Is Gone

You can shed tears that she is gone;
Or you can smile because she lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back;
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her;
Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday;
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she is gone;
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
Be empty and turn your back;
Or you can do what she would want—
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
