Wrens, GA  –              Andrew “Andy” Quitman Hair, Jr., 95, loving husband of 38 years to Jewel Sheppard Hair, entered into his eternal rest Thursday evening, May 28, 2020 at Keysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services with military honors to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, June 1, 2020 at Wrens Memorial Gardens. You may pay your respects from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, May 31, 2020 at James Funeral Home.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.

The eldest of six children of the late Lillian Price Hair and the late Andrew Quitman Hair Sr, Andy was born and raised in the McBean area of Burke County. Loving our country and being a patriot, he joined the Navy after graduating high. Upon his return, he moved to Columbia County, married and started his family. He retired from AT&T after 33 years of service as a Switch Equipment Technician. After suffering through the death of his wife, Andy then found love again, marrying and moving to Wrens in 1982.  Having accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, he joined the fellowship of Wrens Baptist Church in 1983, where he was a member of the Willis Clark Sunday School Class, faithfully attending until his health decline.  He had a great love for his church and church family, enjoying special friendships in Christ. Andy was also a Master Mason for over fifty years in The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Georgia.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and working in his vegetable garden. He had love for travel, visiting all 49 states plus Mexico and Canada.  A voracious reader, he especially enjoyed westerns, collecting 200-300 books in his library. A huge NASCAR Fan, with Bill Elliot being his favorite driver, Andy watched every race no matter where he was or what else was going on. Having a great sense of humor and with a twinkle in his eye, he loved to tease and cut up with people. A devoted husband and father, Andy loved his family unconditionally and was the happiest in their presence.  His faith and trust in the Lord gave him the strength to get through life’s valleys—the losses, struggles and trials; and now having a new, perfect body, he is in Glory, rejoicing with his loved ones forever.

Andy was also preceded in death by his son, Gene Hair; and siblings, Emily Reeves, Libby Stewart and Roy Hair. Other survivors include his children, Alvin “Butch” Hair (Patsy), Nathaniel Newsome (Debra), Clay Newsome and Tonya Lariscy; two sisters, Dean Shaw and Thelma Lee James; eight grandchildren, Amy Farris, ‘Lil Butch Hair, Tiffany Revel (Roger), Allison N. Bazemore (Jason), Laura Lynn Williamson (Travis), Dr. Shae N. Kramer (Jasen), Jaycen Newsome (Bethany) and Austin McNeely (Macy); fourteen great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
