Allen James Borum, Jr., 94, peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly home Saturday morning, March 9, 2024. The family will greet friends from 12:00 – 1:00 PM Thursday, March 14, 2024 at James Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 1:30 PM at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain James King officiating.
Allen was born June 23, 1929 in Tifton, GA to the late Allen J. Borum Sr. and Maude Bell Borum. After serving in the US Army Air Corps / Air Force, he worked in Radio Communications (Civil Service) at Fort Gordon where he later retired. He was a radio repairman by trade, but learned many skills as he helped those in need around Wrens with repairs. His main customer was Peggy’s Restaurant. He didn’t charge them for repairs and they didn’t charge him for his meals. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church where he and his wife, Mary, were baptized together.
Those gone on before him also include his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ellen Glover Borum; and two brothers, Alvin Borum and Melvin Borum. Those who will forever remember him are his children, Barbara Cato, James Borum and Julie Timms (Chris); grandchildren, Michelle Helton (Kevin), Wesley Cato, Nicholas Borum, Logan Borum, Robyn Higgins, Mary Scott (Jordan) and Caitlyn Higgins; step-grandchildren, Crystal Owens (Kevin), Marilyn Dale (Tyler), and Gabby Cunningham (Tristen); thirteen great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.
While he will be greatly missed, his family will cherish all the wonderful memories made with him while growing up and throughout his life. He was loved by all who knew him and all of his friends meant the world to him.
The family wishes to thank each of you who have visited, cooked, sent cards and kept him in your prayers. Also, a huge “Thank You” to Holding Forth the Word of Life Church for bringing his meals three times a week, and the friends made through this ministry. You have no idea how much this meant to him and to the family.
The family also extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pilcher, Jefferson Hospital, University Home Health Service and Crescent Hospice for taking excellent care of him during his last weeks, especially to Linda McNair, Julie Quillen, David Peterson and Samantha. Thank you so much for the friends that visited and uplifted him during a very difficult time.
